Classic Sailboats is based near Caernarfon, North Wales and is run by partners John Jones and Andy Long together with a small, dedicated workforce.
Classic Sailboats undertake a wide variety of traditional work on boats small and large, the emphasis being firmly on craftsmanship, finish, and elegance. All our boats are built with an eye to their looks and attention to their racing performance!
New Boats:
In addition to the traditional racing classes featured here in the "New Builds" section, we also build clinker dinghies, for rowing or motoring, from 8 ft to 18 ft.
Spars & Foils:
We make traditional wooden spars for many classes, or to individual specifications. Foils in wood or galvanized steel are also available to individual requirements.
Repairs:
We undertake repair work on many types of boat - from small racing dinghies to large yachts. We can carry out work on site where it is impractical to move the boat to our workshops.
Restorations:
A full restoration of a classic yachts is a massive undertaking in time and cost. One recent project, the 44ft Knud Reimers designed "Marian Maid", took over two years to complete, and involved a complete rebuild of the yacht from the keel up.
Classic Sailboats are currently restoring the Conway and Menai Strait One design "Coralie". Designed by William Fife III, this example will be 78 years old this year. An active class of these very elegant dayboats races at Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey.
